Welcome to Operation Romania
Operation Romania is a non profit organisation, supporting projects in Romania. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne. 2012 will see Operation Romania join forces with children's charity Wishing Well and their sister charity in Romania Fundatia Wiliam Tyrrell.
A group of 16 volunteers will travel from Newcastle upon Tyne and lead a group of youngsters from an orphanage in Slatina, in south east, Romania for a week long summer camp. Youngsters will enjoy a fun packed programme of activities provided by Operation Romania, Wishing Well and there sister charity in Romania Fundatia Wiliam Tyrrell.
Romania has an estimated 100,000 children living in orphanages, children were placed in orphanages for numerous reasons but many will blame Ceausescu’s anti-abortion and child requirement laws. However, during the child requirement laws he was also exporting Romania's food to pay off the large national debt. Families were put in the position to have children that they couldn’t afford or feed. The unwanted children were sent to the state orphanages. As time went on it became more and more excepted to leave the unwanted children in the orphanages. Thankfully conditions today in most orphanages are a vast improvement of the media’s coverage in the 1990’s.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The group have already started fundraising and are seeking support and sponsorship towards the final cost of £11,500. efforts of the group will include raffle’s, sponsored events, charity nights and gift aid.
